Hong Kong: Thanksgiving 2019
Relaxing last day in Hong Kong, started off by wandering Tsim Sha Tsui for the first time the whole trip-- even found a decent cha chaan teng for breakfast. It's still a tourist area so not the best quality, but the fact that it was barely a five minute walk from the hotel didn't hurt. Lunch was coming up soon anyway-- caught Sam's friends Helene and Diva at Kung Tak Lam right in TST.
After a leisurely lunch, Sam's friends all went back to work, while Sam and I headed over to the Hong Kong Museum of Art. It was excellent, with a mix of historic and contemporary art. Made me wonder why I'd never gone before, although I suspect I was suffering from art museum overload on past trips?
Parted ways with Sam before dinner-- he was off to see Ada and Seline again, while I headed up to Ho Lee Fook in Central to meet up with Mia and Frank for dinner. Ho Lee Fook reminded me a little of Chef Roy Choi in Los Angeles-- Asian fusion with bold flavors, and like Chef Roy Choi's ventures (Kogi, Chego, etc.), it's mostly successful. Nothing truly amazing, but most worked, some worked extremely well, and only a few misses.
Was a bit dark and a bit loud to chat too much inside, but was still great to see everyone! It seems like Hong Kong's two newest ex-pats are adjusting to life well as professors at HKU, and Frank in particular is already a pro at getting to the airport from Ho Lee Fook via the mid-level escalators to the HK Airport Express. He has it down to a science-- which probably shouldn't have surprised me given I am talking about a pair of PhD's in Geography!
Thanks to Frank and Mia's advice, made it to HKG, including through security, with 45 minutes (!) to spare. (Sam thought I was nuts!) Then had a pleasantly uneventful return flight back to the USA, complete with some spectacular nighttime views of Hong Kong on takeoff.
Until next time, Hong Kong!
