Hong Kong: Thanksgiving 2019
Sam decided to visit his friend Ada at her hometown in Sai Kung for the first time in 20 years. While they enjoyed a pleasant afternoon at the pier, I decided to torture myself on a pleasant little run on the Tai Long Wan trail. Described as moderate on the trail guide, it ended up taking 50% more time than I expected, and included not only beach running but far more flights of stairs, both up and down, than anticipated.
After running out of water and managing to avoid bailing out two miles early like a wuss, ground out the last five miles back of the planned run/hike/slog, and splurged on a nice air conditioned cab back from Sai Wan Pavilion to Sai Kung Pier.
Sam thought I looked half dead as he and Ada enjoyed a nice seafood meal on the pier, including a 750 gram mantis shrimp!
Did Ada's usual minibus ride to the MTR, then back to Mong Kok. Hello Hong Kong commute? Had another Michelin star dinner, this time one of Sam's favorites, the 1* Ming Court. Petula and Ada both joined in-- since Sam doesn't drink, finally had some people to share a drink with. The honey BBQ pork loin was the most delicious char shu of the whole trip, and the cubed ox tongue was excellent. Everything else was at least very good, and they backed it all up with a solid wine list, too. Not sure it was worth the splurge, but it was damned good.
