Hong Kong: Thanksgiving 2019
Stood in front of Duck Shing Ho like a pair of illiterate idiots because we mistranslated their sign, not realizing they are closed until after Lunar New Year! ;_; At least one of the employees saw Sam and I standing out there and recommended we try Sun Hing Congee as consolation, and it was indeed some very tasty jook.
U-Banquet with Sam's friend Seline for lunch afterward, the fancy fish chandelier and artful presentation of the food made it a very different experience than Tim Ho Wan the day before, although the food was equally tasty. Then a quick walk to Happy Valley for the surprisingly well executed F11 Photo Museum. It could have been an ego-fest (especially the Leica collection), but in reality it was a surprisingly frank look at Hong Kong from one man's perspective. A stop at Egg Roll Queen on the way as an alternate source for egg roll cookies didn't hurt either.
Met up with Sam's friend Sylvia and her family for dinner. Baby Maze is adorable, and it was fun to see a real Hong Kong flat that was bigger than a shoebox for once. *grins* Over in Wan Chai, the superb crispy chicken at Fook Lam Moon and the equally good jook almost blew us away. Two not-yet-hungry diners devoured their meals, giving ample ample evidence that they'd earned their Michelin star. NOM!!
