Cape Town: December 2019
Morning run around the V&A Waterfront, two laps made for a pleasant 10km run to start the day. Breakfast afterwards was at the adjacent Table Thirteen, which provided to be a very friendly, family-owned coffee shop and bakery that actually did a pretty good hot breakfast. The outside tables have a lovely view of the street, which would actually have been nice if the street wasn't quite so busy. Alas...
Siviwve (sp?) Tours for a tour of Langa Township filled the early afternoon. Nele (sp?) was an excellent guide who gave a through background of the townships and their history, and a deeper appreciation of why so much bloodshed happened before civil rights finally came, and integration began to happen. Also helped that not only was he from Langa, but that everyone in the community seemed like they actually knew him. Not too many pictures out of respect for the residents.
Straight off to the airport next; the way the logistics worked out made it hard to justify too much more exploring on this trip. Cape Town International Airport had some sort of music festival going on outside the arrivals area, and inside, the Bidvest Premier Lounge (used by almost every airline) finally expanded, taking over the old smoker's lounge. It's still not the most appealing lounge, but the food and seats were actually better tasting and more comfortable than their appearances belied.
The day ended (or began?) by boarding an old Airbus A340-300 for the first leg of the return. Lufthansa always does a pleasant enough job, and this flight crew clearly was one of their better ones. Sadly the seating layout and the seats themselves show their age and are not particularly comfortable, and the food was so-so at best.
