Long Beach Marathon Expo
Started the day with an Ars Technica forum members' meetup at Bo Daddy's BBQ. The food was... alright. Hot links were pretty good, tri-tip and brisket were both fine examples; tri-tip in particular seems to be dying out in Los Angeles' BBQ scene, and was a nice if non-memorable addition. Ribs and rib-tips were okay but needed sauce, and the chicken was... interesting? Sort of a very thin skin, probably due to the smoking rendering all of the fat away?
Real killer was just how slow they were. Probably 30 or 45 minutes for the food to come out? And the sides looked like they came straight from the fridge. Meh.
Long Beach Marathon Expo afterwards. The usual experience there of a pretty well-run local race, and a nice 10 year running celebration despite a few rough edges.
Headed to Uncle Fung Borneo Eatery afterwards for an early dinner. Roti and char kway teow were pretty so-so by Malaysian or Singaporean standards, particularly missing the wok-fried char that they char kway teow should have had. However, considering this is a strip mall in Long Beach, it was solid enough to show off why it's a favorite with locals who want to do more than just stop by the Target next door.
