Petersen Automotive Museum
Just barely squeezed in a quick dim sum at Five Star Seafood, to wrap up Justin's fooding weekend. Even dragged the cat out of the barn, errr, Randy out of Burbank!
Had an even tighter squeeze to make it to the 11:00am 2 hour vault tour at the Petersen Automotive Museum. They claim no photos allowed due to security reasons, yet they also do a separate, more expensive "photography" tour that is explicitly for pictures? Anyway... it's just as well, because the tour is jam-packed full of automotive history, extensively punctuated by the fact that many cars there are not only significant models, but additionally significant due to who owned the vehicle in question. Well worth it. Sadly we barely had a minute to talk to our docent afterwards-- otherwise he was excellent.
Random vehicles that stood out were Iraq dictator Saddam Hussein's personal limo and an even more random riced out Nissan 350Z (Z33) they didn't get around to explaining. Plus an immacculate Honda Civic with a Rywire job that didn't get a glance. They emphasize the very origins of the automobile as well, and do a great job of it. I'm still very confused by the Z and the Civic...
After the Vault tour, did the obligatory wander around the museum. They do a decent job rotating exhibits, including a limited-stay memorial to Jessi Combs, plus the usual variety of movie cars and historically significant vehicles.
Ended up saying farewell to Randy and Justin afterwards; Randy back to his usual grind and Justin off to his business trip, which is the whole reason why he was in LA!
