Hong Kong: March 2019
Spent the morning trying to run off the weekend's eating, then off to the airport, where the Plaza Premium Lounge's noodle bar is always delicious, at least for airport food. Definitely a more broad hot food selection than what United offers at their club across the way.
Got to fly back in United Polaris thanks to an upgrade going through. Some so-so salad and shrimp, then a surprisingly simple if decent chicken dish (to be fair, could've gotten a much better dish at night market...), and of course an ice cream sundae and cheese plate for dessert. Not sure why, but the sundae is always nomnomnom. Flight was smooth and boring otherwise, and lead into a decidedly indifferent beef jook (congee) for breakfast.
Sunrise poked through the windows right around breakfast, bathing the plane in warm hues as we approached the west coast, and made for a beautiful landing over the SF Bay Area. Half Moon Bay and Bair Island were particularly scenic on the way in.
After arrival, just enough time for a quick shower in the lounge, then ran off to catch the next flight- which offered more spectacular morning views of the peninsula. San Bruno Mountain and Daly City, plus a last glimpse of SFO in the morning's sun. The subsequent landing in Los Angeles wasn't bad either, but not nearly as pretty.
Wrapped up the trip with lunch at the Polaris lounge at LAX. Tacos and a kim chi beef tater tot thing were a charitable attempt at being multicultural, but weren't as good as the fish and chips or the burger. It was a nice touch to see the chef come out and ask how customers were doing, and it's good to know that United is definitely trying. Still a few more menu items left to try on the menu, too. *grins*
