New York
Got up before sunrise to get in a few more night shots of WTC, playing more with long exposures. Then it was time to catch up with an old college friend and eat our way across New York.
Sadly due to the extreme cold- 1 degree F measured, negative 25 degrees F with wind chill (!) her husband elected to stay home with the kid, so the fooding was somewhat limited by the lack of stomachs to feed...
An early arrival to Katz's Deli before the crowd meant quick service, but also the B-team or maybe even the C-team working this holiday, with decidedly mediocre pastrami. It was the one true disappointment of the trip, with locals all insisting it's usually much better. At least the liver salami was solid.
Took advantage of NY Restaurant Week to go to Nougatine by Jean Georges for lunch. The Asian fusion here is well executed, at least at Restaurant Week prices. Hard to say it's work regular prices, especially with so much competition in the area. Plus their landlord is terrible. -_-
Wary of overly full stomachs and with too much dessert already eaten this weekend, Zai Lai (Taiwanese) got skipped, as did several dessert places. Ended up at Canal Street Food Hall for a California transplant, Boba Guys (yuuuuummm as always) and managed to squeeze in one order of excellent har cheung fun at Joe's Steam Rice Roll. Very tasty, will need to try more than just one dish when more stomach space is available!
Then hauled butt back to the airport for my return flight... made it by just 3 minutes! (hmm, who do I get that habit from... *grins*)
