Day 7: Frankfurt and return

It smelled heavenly as soon as you opened the door.

Wild boar bratwurst. Pretty good.

Sadly I did not have room for more food...

Although the croissants looked decent, considering it was a food cart.

FRA is a busy LH hub. Two 747-8's, A380, and an A340 visible.

Inside Lufthansa's Concourse Z Business Lounge.

Not too crowded... at the moment.

Not a flight you'd see at any US airport-- Iran!

Improperly installed seat trim. Isn't this 777-300ER almost brand-new?

Not sure if we were avoiding turbulence, storms, or just busy airspace off the coast.

Smoked chicken is... indifferent.

Likewise, the cod was entirely forgettable. On the plus side, it wasn't overcooked or anything-- major plus.

The Polaris branding is actually rather well done.

And back to the Bay Area!

Dinner with the Lai's. I think Simon is falling asleep while Pearl photographs her food.

Hong Kong Flower Lounge deep fries their squid in pork lard.

Brief visit with Pearl and Simon is over, time to finish the journey home!

While I had the option of a morning flight out of FRA, I opted for a slightly later one to make the most of my unplanned layover in Frankfurt. Headed back to the Innenstadt to play tourist and grab a bratwurst (yes, very cliche) before heading back to the airport. Orderly German roads were also a nice change from the very different conditions in the Balkans. *grins*

Had a very comfortable flight back via SFO, plus some surprisingly excellent service (on an American carrier? *gasp*). And just to maximize the extra day added to the trip, arranged to catch Pearl and Simon yet again on my layover-- this time planned!

Had an enjoyable time catching up with the Lai's at Hong Kong Flower Lounge, over squid, pea sprouts, and fried rice, before finally heading back to the airport and catching the late flight back home. For a trip littered with travel delays, things worked out well in the end!
