Montenegro and Albania: July 2018
Not as well known as Croatia, Montenegro is still a rugged, beautiful country, particularly the Bay of Kotor. The next country further south, Albania, is even less popular for Western travelers, but it has its fair share of countryside and a few UNESCO World Heritage sites. Plus, it was the optimal airport in the area for Sam to fly into for some reason, vs. airports in Montenegro or Bosnia.
Day 1 - Flight delays lead to awesome random encounters with friends at SFO. And a great flight!
Day 2 - Flight delays mean missed connection hell and an unplanned stop in Rome, but at least I get there in the end!
Day 3 - Learning the roads in Albania and Montenegro, not to mention border crossings, Kotor via Ulcinj.
Day 4 - Perast, Ostrog Monastery, and Kotor.
Day 5 - Long drive back to Albania, Berat via Shokder.
Day 6 - Exploring Berat, then back to Tirana, and the joy of more delays and missed connections.
Day 7 - Maximizing the unexpected overnight stay in Frankfurt as well as the new connections to get home.
