Heading towards Piute Mountains Nature Preserve via Jawbone Canyon Road.

Kelso Valley Road water cache (PCT Mile 616) is well-stocked.

Perhaps the only time in its life that this Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara will be off-road.

Mango sticky rice. Mango was ripe and sweet at least.

Prep work for backpacking the Pacific Crest Trial (PCT), miles 566.5 to 608 (ish), begins with a two hour drive up dirt roads to Piute Mountain Nature Preserve to drop off Travis' truck at the end point. Didn't see any parking at the original planned end point (mile 611), but meh, close enough. (we did see parking at mile 611 on the way back, but were too lazy to re-position!)

Unexpectedly, SC251 ends up having some actual off-roading... not much, but just enough to surprise the hell out of me. Fortunately the rental was a real off-road vehicle and it wasn't fazed at all, unlike the driver! Helped out some PCT thru-hikers as well over at PCT mile 616 (Kelso Valley Road), then headed back to Mojave.

Finished dinner at a local Thai (!) place, Mojave Thai, Travis picked up a pimp cane for the trail (aka he forgot his poles!), and then it was time to call it a night.
