Alaska: June 2018
A pair of brand-new stores inside Terminal 7 at LAX, Ashland Hill for a mediocre burger, and Pier No.7 Market for, well, a smaller version of the typical Hudson News. Then a pair of pretty boring plane flights to Alaska, with the exception of some great sun rays trying to peek through the clouds on approach to Ted Stevens International Airport (ANC) in Anchorage.
Apparently the super long days mean most places are open late. Sushi and Sushi was still reasonably busy even at 10pm, and while pretty conventional, the sushi was actually much better than I expected. Smoked scallop (hotate) was the only uncommon menu item, while both the live sweet shrimp (botan ebi) and scallop (hotate) were both excellent. Ditto for the salmon (sake), although considering this is Alaska, good salmon was expected!
