Birthdays
To the Chen household for Mikaela's 2nd birthday! Caught up with Barry's group, most of whom I hadn't seen much of since the college days. Tons of people there with kids-- the times have definitely changed since then!
Nordic food at Alta for Ophelia's birthday dinner. Quite tasty but small portions, as seems to be standard at Scandinavian places. Smoked fish, cured fish, and gravlax are definitely staples. Highlight was actually dessert, with a pear and ice cream, a chocolate cake, and a super thin (almost crepe-like) take on apple pie. Nomnomnom!
t'was still hungry afterwards, so stopped by Sushi Kiyono for second dinner. Not the fanciest omakase, nor the highest quality, but pretty solid. Probably shouldn't have been too surprised considering it was Beverly Hills-- any place decent enough to be "good" is probably pretty good in absolute terms, given how stiff the competition is for sushi in this zip code. o_0 And I definitely had no complaints about the seared sea bream or the Japanese uni!
