UCLA vs. ASU
Watched UCLA squeak by Arizona State in a half-empty Rose Bowl, 44-37. Then hauled my butt to Little Damage to see what the hype is about.
It's decent soft serve, a very generous portion, and the kicker isn't the chocolate waffle cone, but the hype that enables along with their neon sign? Whatever it is, it makes a big deal out of slightly-above-ordinary, and it works!
Back to DTLA the next day for lunch at Mikkeller, the Danish brewery that is slowly expanding across the US. Some unique beers and a solid burger. The bloody sally wasn't too bad, although I suspect I should've stuck to the beer. Probably would be better for dinner, or at least happy hour; maybe next time!
Finally, dinner at Tsujitia's new restaurant, Killer Noodle. The gaudy interior reminds me of The Bund in Shanghai, while the Japanese take on dan dan mein is distinctly different than the Chinese take. Pretty good but not quite what you may expect, and the standard spicy/chili oil level (level 3/level 3, out of up to level 7 for both) isn't all that spicy. More curious now about the "original style" which looks to be black pepper/tofu rather than chili oil and sansho pepper for the next visit...
