Dominique Ansel Bakery
Opening day for Dominique Ansel Bakery in Los Angeles. Ridiculous 3+ hour wait, but to finally get a try at the original cronut-- clearly superior to all others. Every month at every location the flavor is unique, no repeats-- white peach muscovado is the opening one here at The Grove. Yum! And a complete surprise to me was the ice cream s'mores... how had I not had one of these before?
Porchetta sandwich was also a surprise (clearly I had not studied the menu beforehand!), although the verdict was about the same as the s'mores: good, even very good, but not amazing. Ditto for the croissants, which are good, but not quite tops. Assessment: excellent, but I don't know if I would wait 3+ hours again. *grins*
I do need to make at least one follow-up visit for the cakes, tho... and maybe a proper meal at 189, the restaurant?
Other fooding during the day included a teribble alligator gumbo from the Farmers Market next door, and a rather ordinary stone bowl curry from the newly redone Curry House on Sawtelle.
