Trying out dim sum in OC at J Zhou with coworkers, at The District at Tustin Legacy. Big long fancy name for what's a reasonably nice Chinese restaurant, complete with ridiculously priced dim sum ($5 a dish, ouch!). The dim sum failed to exceed average or slightly above average despite the price premium, which lead to a meal that was decent enough while eating it and then rather disappointing after the check arrived.
Wandered across the street to Mr. Holmes Bakehouse' brand-new location. First day of the official opening was predictable: they had closed the line by the time we got there as they were sold out. This location also looks tiny, as it's in a shared space in The District, which means the insane line is doubly brutal. Headed to Milk Box for some milk tea to wash all the dim sum down, while the rest of the group picked up ice cream at Churned Creamery instead.
Dinner that night was with the Lai's, who came down to hang out-- and get kbbq with the rest of us!
Manna in Little Tokyo had pretty good meats, including a surprisingly delicious rib meat, plus the usual beef tongue, brisket, galbi, pork jowl, and an okay bulgogi, plus the ban chan self-serve bar was well stocked. Service otherwise was pretty atrocious, but then, it was all about seeing friends and hanging out!
