Myanmar (Burma): January 2017
The past-midnight arrival in Phuket was complimented by the fact that the hotel managed to botch the room bookings, but at least Sam had gotten in a few hours earlier and given me a heads-up. Managed to squeeze in a few hours' sleep and still make the mediocre breakfast buffet before it closed on us. We then decided to hire a taxi and tour Phuket, since I'd never been and was spending only one day here!
Stopped at a bunch of beaches on the west coast and had a decent lunch at a beachside stall at one of them, although honest, after a while, they all look the same. At least the lookout over Laem Sing Beach was different, and someone had a huge bird (tourist trap, obviously) at Karon View Point.
We skipped the big buddha and made Wat Chalong our only temple stop-- elegant and majestic despite lacking the intimidating size of the more famous temples. Not far down the road was Old Town Phuket, which looked like it had a bit of colonial character, then it was an hour back to Nai Yang in the pouring rain.
Dinner was one of the many terrible tourist traps by the hotel. I'm sure there's good food somewhere in Phuket, but we didn't find it, and Nai Yang Beach's options were distinctly bad. :-/
