Time for a different kind of trip: sailing!
Actually it was Sam's idea, and a good one. New country and a very different experience than the usual travel or adventure travel that either of us had done in the past.
Not to mention being completely offline for a few days as we sailed the Mergui Archipelago, so make that two new experiences, not just one!
Days 0 and 1 - Many airports and airplanes, from LAX to SFO to ICN to HKT over far too many hours.
Day 2 - Quick day of sightseeing in Phuket.
Day 3 - minibus for a few hours from Thailand to Burma (Myanmar), crossing the border in Ranong, long tail boat to Kawthaung (Kawthong, Kawthoung, depending on the Romanization) in Burma, and setting sail! First stop: Thay Yae (Thae Yae) Island.
Day 4 - 115 Island with its nature hike and sea cave, then Nyaung Wee Island.
Day 5 - Bo Cho Island, including the Moken Village of Ma Kyone Galet, and then a massive flock of hornbills at Ko Phawet.
Day 6 - Wa Ale Kyunn and Burmese village celebration at the island/village of Sitta Galet.
Day 7 - Nyaung Wee Island (southern tip) and then a beach BBQ on Than Yoke Island.
Day 8 - Myauk Ni and Thay Yae Island for the last night onboard.
Day 9 - morning cruise back to Burma and then the minibus back to Thailand.
Day 10 - return to the USA via multiple airports and airplanes, as always!
