UCLA vs. Oregon State
Backpacking the Gabrielino Trail from Switzer Picnic Area/Switzer Falls to Devore. Quick overnight trip, 10.5 miles each way. Some nice hiking up here, although reports from multiple friends this weekend were that Switzer Falls were barely a trickle. Travis and I headed east instead of south, to Red Box, West Fork, and then to Devore-- where we too basically saw almost no water. o_0
A single piped in spring at mile 7 was the only water we saw-- the roaring creek a few years ago at West Fork was bone dry. Yikes. Another spring fed things a little past West Fork and around Devore, but it's slowly becoming dry as hell around here. The hike itself had a good bit of elevation change and lots of shade, which was a welcome change from the blazing sun of the Mojave on previous trips. Added plus were very nice campgrounds with fire rings at West Fork and Devore-- quite nice to get away from it all, if for only a night!
UCLA vs. Oregon State at the Rose Bowl right after backpacking. Got cleaned up and then off to the Rose Bowl to witness a rare UCLA football victory this season, 38-24!
