Fooding roundup!
Second of two new poke places in Westwood, Poke Me is much better than Poke Bar when it comes to seasoning and taste... but the whole by-the-scoop thing is still a bit weird. They're busy at least, which means maybe they'll stay in business. Lots of fish choices, too.
In contrast, Musashiya Udon doesn't seem to have overcome their diasasterous start of the world's slowest kitchen. Tempura is still very good, but the hot udon is not terribly flavorful, and it's overwhelmed by seaweed and whatnot. Cold udon is better here, but none of the udon seems to be any good.
Road to Seoul with Virgil, Connie, June, June's friend Christine, and a ton of Virgil's coworkers. Solid kbbq here if you don't mind all the smoke, and holy cow we took down a lot of galbi, bulgogi, and brisket! Might need to do kbbq sooner rather than later. Nom!
Lacha Somtum in Thai Town did some delicious nam-khao-tood and deep fried pork pad thai. Not as familiar with larb, but the blue crab salad was also good. Very refreshing after the deep fried clam pancake. And it was deserted given we apparently went on the day of a big parade in Little Armenia, which shares the same streets as Thai Town.
