New truck for grilled cheese, the Richeeze truck. Not cheap-- most noveau food trucks aren't-- but this one appeared to be getting off to a rough start. Not enough cash/change on hand, one of their workers didn't show up (not the first time!) so food was super, super slow to come out, and the high price for a small-average sized, soft, cottony bun with decidedly average bacon mac n cheese... yeah. Not so good.
Tsukumen at Daikokuya afterwards. The tsukumen broth there always seems a bit too close to the ordinary ramen broth, but overall it's not a bad meal.
dineLA Restaurant Week at A-Frame, which apparently switched over to a Hawaiian-themed menu at the start of the year. Poke was excellent if a tad expensive, the homemade spam musubi was just as good. The furikake kettle corn was a bit too intense on flavors after more than a few bites although it was very good. The pork belly was good but not quite as well seasoned as hoped, definitely best shared among friends before it got overwhelming.
Finally, New School Kitchen on Sawtelle for "dim sum." It was... well, it was edible. It was pretty terrible dim sum, although by west LA standards it wasn't the worst I've had. By SGV standards it was pretty awful. Let's not even get into the char shu bao, which actually had an okay filling but the bun tasted like it was left under a heat lamp the whole day (crunch? ewwwwww!) or the Hainan chicken, which was mostly flavorless with crumbly, icky broken rice.
