Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend
Another 3am wake-up to another Disney race. Snapped plenty of pictures in the beginning despite it being pitch dark, then Mike and I both decided to hell with it, time to run. Still managed to keep a nice, slow pace given two races in two days is a little crazy, ~1:50 GPS time, 1:51:56 chip time (due to picture stops).
Disney seems to be experimenting with routes, this was a new one we'd never done before. Ended up running by Garden Grove High School, had a hundred or so Star Wars cosplayers in that area (mile 8 or 9?) to give an audience of Darth Vaders, Jedi, Stormtroopers, Rebel pilots, TIE pilots, bounty hunters, and Imperial officers to cheer the runners on-- pretty awesome.
Hit 99 Ranch for Taiwanese breakfast with Mike and his family after the race. We were starving, and in exchange for a 3am wake-up, Mike's kids definitely needed to be fed! Plus the breakfast there is actually pretty good.
Then off to dim sum with Christine, Mara, Kristina, and Sue at Capital Seafood. Got to meet Stuart (Christine's boyfriend) for the first time as well, which was ample enough reason for everyone to come out! And the dim sum wasn't too bad-- tripe was superb, har gow were quite good, rest was decent. Good enough to not leave the area if you already live in the area, although in absolute terms, Monterey Park/San Gabriel is still better and cheaper. Sadly things were a bit abbreviated as everyone had plans afterwards, but it was still good to meet up.
Half marathon, two meals, and all before 12 noon. Insanity. (and yes, my "plans afterwards" involved a nap!)
