Ike's Place
After many months of delays, ownership controversies, and who knows what else, Ike's Place finally opened a few weeks/months ago in Westwood.
Famous in San Francisco for quality sandwiches, with a unique sandwich or two at every location, a selection of craft sodas and potato chips...
I was unimpressed. Despite a dozen plus employees making the sandwiches, the wait for sandwiches was longer than expected (not too awful tho), the handful of seats outdoors were clearly not enough-- and those of you who know Westwood know that there aren't any serious public seating areas in Westwood proper-- and the price wasn't cheap. Hell, if you add a drink and chips it's a pricey meal.
The sandwich, though, is the key. Had the Madison Bumgarner, which was a roast beef and spicy sauces, on the classic dutch crunch bread. It was solid but not amazing; the bread is pretty good but nothing too exciting, and while the yellow BBQ and habanero sauces match well, the amount of meat inside was pretty skimpy for a ten dollar sandwich. They have a double meat option, but that's an additional four dollars. Holy cow. Sorry Ike's, you guys just don't quite live up to the hype.
