UCLA vs. Nevada
Kicking off the start of football season! Nevada put up a good fight in the first half, but got crushed in the second, leading to a sound UCLA victory, 58-20. Second string got into the game with about 9 minutes left (!). 3 minutes left, even Nevada realized they were beyond hope, and put in their second string as well (CRAZY!). Labor Day fireworks show was pretty good, too! Better than the Long Beach one by a factor of 10, at least.
626 Night Market, take 6, was next after the game. Heck we were already most of the way there... (take 5 was in July, I unfortunately skipped the June and August events this summer) Supposedly the June event was a little rough, but the July one was fine, and the August one introduced the world's largest cup of pearl tea! They brought back the pearl tea this round too... not sure I'd want to be served pearl tea from it, but they had it!
Hitting night market close to closing proved to be a good idea, not as hot, shorter lines, and most booths still had food. About 20 minutes after we got there, we even started to see discounts as it was that close to closing time.
Vikon Farms had decent chicken hearts (not as good as M Grill), Takken continues to be inconsistent with their pork belly (sad!), and the green onion pancake we had was merely solid, nothing amazing. Owners of the Wei's Scallion Pancakes were suggesting we get egg and add sauce in the Taiwanese style-- they apparently didn't realize they were talking to a bunch of Cantos to which their suggestions were almost like sacrilege. *grins* Milk tea at Boba 7 was delicious though, and the cheap green tea I got somewhere (can't remember where) was pretty good. Next time, need to bring a bigger stomach!
Early in the day was trying out a new Chinese place, Moon Chinese Cuisine. As Chinese food in that area goes, it was mediocre. Har gow and shu mai both lacked flavor, although they were at least presentable. The char shu was full of fat and while seasoned properly, it was disgusting on multiple levels since it was basically fat and melted fat.
And of course, GO BRUINS.
