Wurstkuche and Rita's
Impromptu dinner at Wurstkuche's Venice location. Their fries with the various dipping sauces are surprisingly tasty, and the sausages are pretty solid. Not all the flavors come out in some of their combos, but whatever it was I had (rattlesnake and rabbit?) was pretty good. Could I tell the difference between that and something less fancy? Unfortunately not-- too many toppings, plus, honestly, the taste isn't that different.
Sticking with a more basic brat here might be the way to go...
Rita's Ice Custard's new Santa Monica location was next. Despite it being a cool, misty evening and only their second day open, the lure of free ice cream (or heavily discounted gelatis!) drew lots of people in. The next day promised a still-cheap 50% off, but one day of indulgence was enough. Cherry and mango both looked good, so a mango gelati with vanilla custard, nom nom nom...
Convenient (public paid) parking lot right across the street was also a major plus, even if the block-or-three-north-of-the-main-drag location makes it a bit harder to spontaneously go to Rita's. And since too many spontaneous stops here might be a severe deteriment to our waistlines, perhaps that's a good thing!
Side note: the Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) remodel and expansion at LAX is lookin' good! Even if traffic is a snarled mess during construction...
