San Diego County Fair
Porkabello skewers, garlic-battered mushrooms, bacon-wrapped turkey leg... mmmmmmmmm!! And of course, lots of roast corn and a churro funnel cake!
Bacon wrapped turkey leg helps with keeping the turkey moist, and at 2lb of turkey leg and a pound of bacon, it's definitely crazy. Garlic battered deep fried mushrooms are the second item unique to the SD County Fair (also nom, by all reports), and last but not least, porkabello skewers-- portabello mushrooms wrapped in bacon and a tad of cheese (gouda?) in the middle. NOM. I think the only unique thing we missed was the Krispy Kreme sloppy joes.
Usual additional fair foods, shrimp cocktail in a pineapple, kettle corn, BBQ chicken, lots of roast corn... skipped most of the deep fried stuff and the pork chop on a stick, just didn't have the stomach space!
The theme of the San Diego County Fair this year is "Game on!", a single hall dedicated to the history of board and arcade games. Not all that impressive, but the large Monopoly car, life-sized Operation! table, huge chess set, and a rather decent collection of arcade cabinets including Star Wars and Pole Position were kinda neat.
Hit Angels and Hearts afterwards for their soy-based shaved snow. Not quite my thing vs. the regular shaved snow, but not bad! Have to try the ramen shop next door next time-- when we're not so distracted by bacon...
