Yuri's Night + AAG (continued)
Association of American Geographers Annual Meeting 2013 in Los Angeles. Talk on cartography and mapping of Los Angeles and California by Nicholas Bauch and Rick Miller (of/formerly of UCLA Geography) plus selected others, then nom'ing at Mendocino Farms again (their other downtown location).
Then this year's Yuri's Night, celebration of the first human in space, Yuri Gargarin. The Los Angeles event was held at California Science Center, home of Space Shuttle Endeavour. That's right, we got to party with a Space Shuttle. Not too many people can say that. Yuri's night co-founders Loretta Hildago and George Whitesides were both in attendance, plus quite a few old long-time Yuri's Night organizers (Karen, Mike, Dana...).
Throw in a robotic drink mixer, space geeks galore, space-themed drinks, space-appropriate costumes, and a late night run for pho afterwards to sober up, what more could you want? (FWIW, Pho 24 in k-town is merely adequate).
