Ethnic meals
Uncle Darrow's for cajun breakfast with Nik, Amy, and Anne. Kind of disappointing. Nik and Amy reported that the beignets were much too heavy, and aside from the fried catfish, my breakfast plate was quite ordinary. The lunch and dinner items looked much better though-- could be worth a return visit.
Manna for AYCE Korean BBQ, at Manna's new location in Little Tokyo. Much nicer than the old tents, but the fancy granite and limestone (which can't deal well with the smoke/grease) just seems a little too nice! The tents seemed more fitting. The ban chan buffet wasn't bad (aside from awful jello), the pork jowl was nom nom nom, and most of the rest was decent. The most disappointing part was the price; the cheaper "gold" menu had everything we wanted except beef tongue. WTF.
We had to upgrade to the pricer "black" menu for some skimpy servings of beef tongue. What the hell, people. For the price of the "black" menu, we could've gone to Oo-kook instead, and that really left us feeling ripped off, 'cause Manna, while not bad, definitely is not as good as Oo-kook.
