Scarpetta
dineLA Restaurant Week for January 2013 meant a trip to Scarpetta. Their famed spaghetti turned out to be a very, very al dente concoction, very tasty but maybe not worth the price. Beet salad, polenta, buratta (non-traditional, but delicious!) were all quite good.
Main courses, black sea bream had nice crispy skin and was done well. The sirloin wasn't quite as good; medium-rare ended up medium in the center and well on the edges. Disappointing, although the quality of the meat was pretty good. Others had the jidori chicken, which seemed good. Dessert wasn't consistent either; the chocolate brownie was more bittersweet and simple than anything, while the the vanilla caramel budino was amazing. Cookie bits, chocolate bits, vanilla, a hint of sea salt... pure deliciousness.
Service, unfortunately, was inconsistent. First half of the meal was great, finding our waitress the second half... not so much.
