Umemura Ramen
Previous visits here were always underwhelming. This time, in light of the fact that Bill is vegetarian, we had a harder time finding ramen... so we checked out a few places and ended up here. The waitress pleasantly surprised us by talking to the chef and finding out what dishes were and were not compatible, and even got them to make the veggie fried rice without any chicken stock at all.
The ramen itself wasn't bad-- the cold sesame chicken ramen was much better than I expected-- but man, they're in an area with a tough, crowded market. If you're ramen isn't awesome, it is a hard sell. At least they were much more crowded than the first few times I went, always a good sign! I wonder if the chef or recipe or something has changed since my first visit a good 3 or so years ago?
