Kiriko Sushi
After years of driving by to other places on Sawtelle (and in LA in general), it was finally time to stop by Kiriko.
Turns out I should've stopped by here years ago. The sushi is damned good, very fresh, and the variety is excellent. The only letdown was the halibut tempura, but then, who goes to a sushi restaurant for the tempura?
Red snapper, bluefin tuna, striped jack, toro, king salmon, smoked salmon, salmon roe, Spanish mackerel (sawara), silver fish (or was it saber fish?), plus we had spicy tuna cut rolls and unagi & avocado cut rolls. MMMMMMMMMMMMMM good. It was all excellent, with the smoked salmon being surprisingly delicious. Even the spicy tuna reflected the excellent fish here, as that too was superb.
The price is a little expensive, but it's well in-line with other nicer sushi places such as Sasabune and Sushi Masu. Cheaper than the very best you can find in Los Angeles, but even in this price bracket, they still have very stiff competition. They're worth the money, but then, so is their competition...
