LA Marathon Expo
The LA Marathon Expo was even more modest this year than last year. Memories of last year's driving rain probably didn't help, and everyone was worried it would continue this year. A selection of very boring cars from the title sponsor, Honda, didn't help, and it was backed up with a lackluster selection of free samples-- rice dominated? (WTF?)
Can't complain too much though, the small crowed Friday morning made it easy to get in and get out!
Finally made it to sugarFISH for dinner that night. "The Nowaza" is the largest special, and sugarFISH does everything a unique way, with slightly warm, loose-packed rice. Some undoubtedly love it, unfortunately we weren't some of them. Too much ponzu on the sashimi and a few pieces, and some of the most lousy "nice" toro I've had. Uni was pretty good, but only an average value for the money.
We weren't impressed enough to order much more than one extra order of sushi (the uni), so we wandered next door to Mendocino Farms for the the pork belly banh mi and-- surprise of the night-- very tasty Boylan soda in the soda fountain! The pork belly banh mi definitely isn't a banh mi, but it is damned good. Well worth the hype.
