Food on Overland
The usual Scoops Westside (ice cream!) and Chego (Korean rice bowls) on Overland Ave were joined by the Lobsta Truck tonight. I'd heard about the Lobsta Truck for months but never been... so we ordered a lobster roll to share. Turns out it was... underwhelming. Generous amount of lobster, okay roll, but it failed to match up to Luke's Lobster (in Manhattan's Greenwich Village) or other places.
Portion was a little small too, but then lobster is bloody expensive, and even for $12, what could we expect? It wasn't bad, just disappointing, given all the hype...
Chego was its customary nom-worthiness as usual. Packed and crazy, pork belly bowl is seriously good. Asparagus wasn't as special, and the kung pao shrimp bowl, which had potential, could've used a few more shrimp than the 8 or 10 tiny ones in there.
Don't let that discourage you, though-- something about Chego's intense flavors makes it very good. Even the so-so items are still very decent, and the top items, like the pork belly bowl, are MMMMMMMMMM good!
Trek over to Scoops Westside for dessert, of course. Lemon basil ice cream was two very distinct flavors that never seemed to meld together. It was good, but how those two flavors stayed distinct... not sure that was a good thing or not. The red velvet oreo didn't have that issue, though: it was straight up delicious. It's good to say that after being open a year or so, Scoops Westside is finally developing its own character, too, as opposited to the rather sterile feel in the beginning.
