Mammoth: January 2012: Day 2

Sorry, no photos from day 1-- that was the drive up to Mammoth from LA at night, where we saw absolutely no snow on the sides of the roads all the way up into Mammoth itself. Any photos posted would just have been depressing anyway...

A storm was scheduled to arrive this weekend, but sadly, that meant Friday's conditions were still pretty awful. We saw dirt on the ground in places we'd never seen barren during winters in Mammoth. The quartet of runs that head back to Canyon Lodge from Canyon Express? One was open. Lower Dry Creek? Turns out it's actually a creek with wooden bridges spanning it. Who knew? I'd never, ever seen the bridges on it before! The plus side was, it wasn't quite as bad as we'd expected, and even with most of the top half closed, we still got in some okay runs.

Ended things a bit early as it had started to rain (ack!) mixed in with the snow. By midnight it was pouring rain, actually... eeek.

Cheston and Penny got a nice nap during the day while everyone was out skiing and boarding, and dinner was delicious-- pasta!
