Death Cab for Cutie
Death Cab for Cutie at The Greek!!
First order of business, tho, was to fill our hungry bellies at Wat Dong Moon Lek Noodle in Silverlake. Very good Thai food, reputed to be almost homemade, although I am sad to say I wouldn't know the difference. The Issan set with pork jerky was delicious and spicy, the tom kha udon was actually less spicy than the papaya & shrimp salad included with the Issan set, and-- as expected-- the hainan chicken was forgettable. The decor is very hipster inside and service isn't bad.
Then onto The Greek!
Tragically we were late (ok Death Cab came on earlier than expected), but man... we got Why'd You Want to Live Here and 405 and a few other songs we didn't expect to hear. Soooo good!
Backed up with the lovely, nerdy Long Division and the surprisingly moving when played live Grapevine Fires, the better known I Will Follow You Into the Dark, and the much-better-known-than-I-expected Cath...
The new stuff, including You Are a Tourist and Home Is a Fire, sounds good next to the older songs such as The New Year. They ended with the same song as the last tour-- Transatlanticism remains one of the most beautiful songs they've done. Could've used some fireworks like they had the last time at Hollywood Bowl, but I'm just being greedy! (is it too much to ask Ben Gibbard and the rest of Death Cab to play ALL of their songs? Or at least can we get Monday Morning? Sadly we didn't...)
House of Pies afterwards for pie. Strawberry cheesecake there is awesome. Nomnom!
