Hiking the Hollywood Sign
Having put this particular hike off for way too long... that had to be fixed!
It's a pretty easy hike, almost all paved the whole way, and is only about 45 minutes up and 35 minutes down. Unless you are a total moron like me and miss the turn-off, go to the end of the road, and end up hiking a bit of the front hillside to the sign rather than the back.
The front, uhhhh, isn't really a trail, as we quickly found out and almost as quickly turned around. I think June figured it out first, while the rest of us pressed on. (oops!) The views from it are pretty nice though, and probably worth the ten minute detour? Once you make the top, it's a smidgen underwhelming-- but you're finally there! It is a nice view, there is a fence and a ton of cameras watching, and the sheer novelty of the hike is well worth it.
We didn't go through the fence at the top, decided not to risk a visit from the LAPD. Plus Tiffany was already the shining example of elegance and grace and managed to trip over herself before the rest of us even managed to meet up!
Did dinner afterwards with Virgil and Connie (and Dan, who joined just for dinner) at Thai Patio, where we found the food was still delicious and the fried trout was very good. Much later in the evening, I was summoned for a midnight snack by Pearl so we did Tea Station for their truly awful food (spicy fried chicken, won ton mein, and something else). Curse those midnight snack cravings!
