Mammoth: April 2011: Day 1
Somehow, everyone was on time and we were fully loaded and on the road to Mammoth by 5:45am. I didn't think we could do it, either!
Delicious breakfast at Jack's in Bishop, where Tiffany somehow finished her food before everyone else (!) and I learned that yes, there is such a thing as too much bacon (!!).
By 11:30am we were at Mammoth and hitting the slopes. SWEET. Parked at Main Lodge so June could go snowmobiling while the rest of us strapped on our boards and skis and hit the slopes. Traversed all the way to Cloud Nine Express, then got stuck on the cat track connecting Cloud Nine/Lincoln Mountain to McCoy Station. DOH.
Turns out that that cat track, while normally just barely doable under good conditions, is NOT going to work so well when it's covered in sticky snow. The skiers? We were unhappy. The snowboarders? I don't think I can print what was said...
Aside from that 20 minute disaster, fun was had all around. Gathered at Tusks Bar at the end of the day for beer and Mammoth Mochas, before piling into the 70s-era cabin and a shopping spree at Safeway for dinner. Fried chicken, potato wedges, coleslaw, deviled egg potato salad, and real salad. Yum!
