Nom Nom
Starting off by being tasty is one thing, being tasty and then being publicized via Food Network's Great Food Truck Race is a whole 'nother animal.
Aka, the lines for Nom Nom are now RIDICULOUS. And the banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches) aren't anywhere close to as good as the best from places such as Banh Mi Che Cali... but oh hell, so much of the world-- even so much of Los Angeles-- is deprived of banh mi that even Nom Nom's merely okay banh mi become deliciously awesome.
They opened at 11am. I got there at 11am. The line was already across the courtyard and stretching to the side. Mike, Ryan, Albert, and Jarett got there a little later and were another dozen places back. Absolutely nuts. By the time I got to the head of the line at 11:35am, let's just say it was crazy, and by the time all of us had gotten our food and eaten a little after 12 noon, the line was utterly insane.
And the food? It's the trademark banh mi on a slightly hard french bread. We mostly prefer the deli special, which is indeed delicious with a little sriracha. Add a lemongrass chicken taco and a grilled pork taco if you're really hungry, and NOM NOM NOM. =D
