Mammoth: January 2011: Trip 1: Day 1
25 feet of snow at Mammoth-- the most snow in the world over the same time period-- meant record-breaking conditions and an awesome season at Mammoth. Sadly we were about 10 days late so all the powder turned into packed powder, but with an 11' to 16' base this early in the season, how could we complain???
A new addition at Main Lodge: an airbag. That was pretty crazy lookin'... might have to try it! We also made it up to the top of Mammoth Mountain and ran down Cornice, whiich, as always, is one of my favorite runs. Altara wanted to kill us for taking her up there, but surprisingly, she survived in much better shape than expected. Heck I think she beat me down!
Checked in to the usual place, then Altara made a Swiss pasta dish for dinner with potatoes and ground turkey, plus canned fruit. Very yummy! We then, uh, mostly sacked out early, 'cause it had been a very long day, and despite being fueled by McDonald's "oatmeal" (not oatmeal! but tasty. sorta), Erick Schat's Bakery sandwiches (NOMNOM!!!!!), and Altara's cooking... fatigue still won.
Fatigue might have been aided by work, too, 'cause after dinner, waiting for Dan to arrive, we all nerded out and did work. Eeek.
