Leif's Birthday
Dim sum at NBC Seafood. Nom! Cheap and tasty enough. Is it the best? Nah. Is it second best? Not even close. But is it cheap and tasty? It sure is! Saw Lauren for the first time in a while, plus got to meet Carley's housemate, Blaise, as well as Matt and one of his friends.
Quick stop at Jim's Bakery afterwards (worst coconut tart ever =( )...
Then a few hours to relax and finish up Christmas shopping, before braving what was to be the 2nd day in a row (out of 6 days!) of torrential rain in Los Angeles to head to Leif-Eric's birthday at Le Grande Orange Cafe in Pasadena.
Leif is so popular he actually had two birthday dinners; this was the "smaller" group-- Donna, Carley, Erick, Daniel, Grace and Kevin, Sophia, myself, plus Leif and Eun-young. The other dinner had awesome Peruvian food, but sadly my schedule didn't let me do both! Le Grande Orange was American and not Peruvian, but it was pretty good. Veggie burger, shortrib tacos, steaks... all pretty good. And white sangira, mmmm...
All day filled with good food and great friends. Leif seems to be doing well as a shiny new PhD and post-doc at Stanford. Actually I think everyone was doing fairly well. And we all miraculously avoided dying while driving in the crazy rain!
