Scuba at Santa Cruz Island
Scuba diving at Santa Cruz Island. Cold water, but the trip was an especially good deal... how could I say no?
Did two dives, even had a harbor seal greet us on our way down the bow line on the first dive. Pretty awesome!
Still, we were in California, and the Alaskan current keeps things chilly and the selection of pretty fish really isn't that great. The first dive goes well, although being severely light on weight was a serious issue (pretty much everyone we talked to said that the dive shop, Eco Dive Center, gave them much less weight than they expected!). The first and second accidential pop-ups were both halted before anything serious, but the third time I hit the surface and it was clear I wasn't making it back down...
The second dive, which entailed cruising a pretty good chunk around the island to avoid severe surge, was at Pelican Cove... and appeared to go better, although the water was somewhat shallow. (too much) Buoyancy was still an issue, but not quite as bad. Then Justin developed a toothache and it would later be found I had a severe mask squeeze. Not fun!
At least we had fresh baked cookies. Mmmmmm.
