Del Cerro Park + SMC Celebrate America
Brunch at King's Hawaiian, hiking Del Cerro Park/Palos Verdes Nature Preserve, and then off to Santa Monica College's Celebrate America festival for the bevy of food trucks.
French toast, especially at King's Hawaiian, is always good! Add in eggs and portugese sausage for nom nom nom. Aside from a slight navigational decision on my part making us rather late for lunch. Oops!
Del Cerro Park/Palos Verdes Nature Preserve for a quick hike afterwards. We made it about halfway down the main trail/fire road in 30 minutes, so we probably covered about 2.5 miles total. Total hike is supposed to be just over 5 miles, so if you go, allocate at least 2 hours. There's a ton of little side trails too. It's also got pretty decent elevation as it descends towards the coast and Abalone Cove, although it has no beach access and honestly, the best part of the hike is the ocean view, 'cause the rest of the area isn't much.
Santa Monica College's Celebrate America festival was next. The Dim Sum Truck, Flying Pig, Fishlips Sushi, Kabob n Roll, Mambo Juice, Let's Be Frank, Frysmith... did I miss any trucks? I'd been to most of them, so I only hit Fishlips (couldn't resist their anniversary sale!) again, plus The Dim Sum Truck (so-so), Kabob n Roll (again, so-so. Kogi does a better job with their ESPN World Cup Truck), and Mambo Juice (skip it!).
Amazingly I did not explode from all of that food, although the knowledge that I had spent $20 at food trucks in one sitting was pretty scary in itself!
