Sandstone Peak + dim sum
Dim sum at New Capital Seafood, as organized by Sophia and Carley. Dan and Chris also made it.
Then off to Sandstone Peak via longer Mishe Mokwa trail approach, 6 mile loop, with Ana and Pablo. At 3,111 feet, Sandstone Peak is the tallest peak in the Santa Monicas. It's a lovely 2 hour hike up, and about 40 minutes back down. The absolutely gorgeous weather this Memorial Day weekend meant tons of traffic on PCH, but it made up for it with perfect weather up top-- nice and warm, with only a slight breeze. Could even see Echo Cliffs, one of the better local climbing areas, on the trail below us (drool). Pretty awesome all 'round.
Some of the other hikers at the top evidently were part of a hiking club called Mosiac, which we'd never heard of. We replied that no, we get paid to hike instead. *grins* (hey, we DO do alot of actual fieldwork!) Being an even bigger smartass than myself, when I responded that no, this was just a casual hike, Pablo said we still we getting paid. hehehehe!!
Capped things off with dinner from Mariscos Guillen La Playita in Santa Monica, quite possible one of the better taco/seafood shacks around. 'nother very satisifying day!
