JPL Open House
NASA JPL Open House in Pasadena is once-a-year event. Naturally, we had to go! We normally visit every other year if we have time to spend the whole day there, but the past two years we've had to make shorter visits, so we've gone every year.
Mars rovers, Mars Science Laboratory, Mars Phoenix, Spitzer Space Telescope, a ton of cool stuff. Visited the Spacecraft Integration facility and the Spacecraft Manufacturing facility too. They machine stuff to 0.0005" precision... no wonder it costs so much, but no wonder that when NASA missions go right, they tend to go very right!
We actually started the day with brunch with Sophia and her family at Din Tai Fung. Since Sophia's hoping to leave Los Angeles when she finds a job, it sounded like hanging out with her might make sense before she's gone! Sophia, Justin, Alicia, and I then hit JPL Open House while the rest of Sop's family did their thing, then we all met again at Ichiban Wonderful Restaurant with just about all of Sophia's family in the area for dinner to celebrate the new graduate. *grins*
Quite a bit of fun, although it was a long day... and congratulations again, Sophia!
