Skirt Chaser 5k
The Skirt Chaser 5k in Los Angeles. It was a bit of a mess-- it was originally scheduled in evening in Culver City, with a "block party" afterwards, then Culver City decided they wanted them in the morning, then Culver City decided they didn't want the Skirt Chaser 5k at all-- so something like a week before the race the organized, Skirt Sports, moved the event to Dockweiler Beach in Los Angeles. Still in the morning, and the beach means no alcohol... plus it was overcast and drizzly!
Fun idea in theory, the execution this time was fumbled pretty bad. The girls start 3 minutes ahead of the guys, teasing with the "SkirtChaser Wave", then the guys start. However, at least at this time, the PA system totally sucked. Racers had no idea where the start line was in advance so we all rushed over about five minutes before start time, then the person the bullhorn was barely audible. We sorta saw the girls wave or something, then they ran off, then a few more people trickled out, then the guys took off.
Crossing the finish line-- the finish line and gathering area were in the sand instead of on asphalt, which is always lovely-- it turns out only the first three results (or something) were actually timed... wonderful.
Plus we got drizzled on. What fun we had was sorta ruined by the disorganization, so fed up, we took a few pictures, then left with our collections of "single guy" stickers "and skirt who wants to be chased" still stuck on, and went to Rutt's Hawaiian Cafe for brunch.
That was damned good, unlike the race. French toast looked good, Rutt's Breakfast looked good, the Royales (basically fried rice with extra scrambled egg) were awesome... yum!
Who showed: Sam and his girlfriend, Alberto and Ivette, Mike, and myself. As for the results, about a 23:05 for me for the 5k. Mike and Albert were a good bit ahead of me-- they beat Erika to the finishline, while I was about 1 second behind her. I forget where the rest finished...
