Oregon 2008: Day 4: back to Portland
From 35F weather that night to something like 65F the next day: bizarre. From almost freezing cold to t-shirt weather.
Picked up one of Katie's friends on the edge of town (literally, dirt road, real semi-rural feel-- even had corn growing in the backyard!), then headed to Ta Ra Rin for Thai food (after finding the local ramen joint ws closed). It was surprisingly good. Distinctly and heavily Americanized, if still quite good so long as you know what you're getting (Sapp Coffee House this is definitely not). Tried to go to the Backcountrygear store and found they were closed on Sundays. Boooooooo.
Since we'd gotten up late, by the time we headed back to Portland and stopped by Fry's on the way, it was already getting fairly late. We had dinner and watched sports at On Deck, a bar not too far from Katie's place, then headed to the Portland Corn Maze on Sauvie Island.
I'd never been to a corn maze... for a first impression, they definitely did a good job scaring you. Most of the time it's predictable, even in a good haunted house; hiding in a cornfield gave some of these guys superb hiding places. You do get muddy from walking around a corn field as opposed to staying nice and clean at Disneyland or Knott's Scary Farm, so that might not be for everyone. Considering this trip was with Erik, Katie, and Majed, mud clearly was not a problem!
