New York 2008: Day 6: Long Island and leaving...
Everyone somehow made it awake after a night of drinking. Had bagels for breakfast, rainbow cake for dessert, then off to the beach for an hour or so til my flight left.
Los Angeles beaches fairly typical for California beaches. Decent sand, good sun, and capable of nice waves. Long Island was decidedly lacking in waves, but considering it's over a thousand miles from Florida, something like 2,800 miles to Santa Monica, it's not so bad! Sure beats 5,600+ miles to Oahu, including 2,756 miles of kayaking across the Pacific! *grins*
Flight back was LGA-ATL-LAX. Didn't seem that bad on paper, but construction at LGA made the terminal stay slightly unpleasant. The leftover pizza I had helped. Getting to ATL early helped too-- and while ATL is the busiest airport in terms of passenger volume in the USA it doesn't feel like it, due to terminals being completely separated from each other. The layover was just long enough to get some crappy cajun food in the airport-- Joel said there was great gumbo there once upon a time, but I sure couldn't find it-- then packed off on another AirTran 737 to LAX. Very grumpy by the end, for some reason I couldn't sleep on the last flight. If you know how much I love sleep, this is a very disturbing thing to have happen!
A rather long day to end what was a pretty fun trip. I still need to visit the top of the Empire State Building, rock climb some more, and go see another Broadway show, plus I'm sure there's a ton of other things yet to do... but hey, it was a short trip this time around-- there will just have to be a next time!
