Random food shots
Random food pictures. Joel had been bugging me for years to go to one of his favorite places, Mariscos, for Mexican. Sure, El Cholo, Baja Catina, Paco's Tacos, Tito's Tacos, Tia Juana, Guelaguetza, etc. are all well and good... but if you consider the street food the best for authenticity, for hole in the wall street stand Mexican food, holy crap, Mariscos is awesome. Don't expect too much-- it is, after all, street food-- but man, it's good. What costs $5 here is $10 to $25 at some other places. I like $5 better, don't you? Although I suppose if I need ambianace I definitely would go to one of the other places I mentioned. *grins*
Errr, ambiance besides on-the-side-of-Lincoln Blvd.-next-to-a-construction-site. ;)
Later that day, out with Pearl, Simon, and Julie to the new The Counter location in Marina del Rey. On the way there, I saw a La Forza SUV... an American brand (selling Italian-built products) I'd never seen before in the US. The I saw it again at our destination. o_0 Totally random.
The Counter's Marina del Rey location had just opened that week, and sadly they were not serving the monthly specials yet. Ended up with vanilla chocolate milkshakes, I think it was, instead of churro milkshakes (was it churro?). Still very tasty, and for a burger a few steps above In-n-Out, The Counter is pretty damned good. They've been panned lately for not being as amazing as they should be, and that may well be justified... but they're still pretty good, and if you like custom burgers, there's few places better in this price range. Honestly, if you want the best burger you can get, go to Father's Office, but that's not even close to the same type of place...
