Stoney Point (bouldering), take 10
After a few weeks off from climbing, it's off to Stoney Point to boulder.
Started on the usual stuff over on Boulder 1 and Slant Rock (near Boulder 1, easy V0 running on the east face), then the wind got really annoying so we went up to Ampitheater instead. Tried it a few times while Bill, Sophia, and Annie all got stuck at the usual spots, either right before or right at the big bulge that's the crux. I fell off early a few times, then somehow did it clean all the way across. Several holds at the crux were filled with sand before, they were clean and stuck amazingly well this time. I'm not quite sure what I did with my feet, but I'm told they stayed low, below the bulge, rather than going higher on it...
Did a 5.7 traverse across Turlock's north face with some amazing beta from some other climbers. Very fun when the dust wasn't blowing. Saw some a group of people practicing techniques for caving using the tree that overhangs Boulder 2.
End of the day was all Boulder 2. We all farted around on The Corner V0 (could sworn it was Mantles V0...) and tried the first move on some impossible stuff (The Ear V6). Bill almost topped out The Corner. Once we figured out that getting the feet up at the very bottom was critical, the side pulls got much better, but the second-to-last-move is a short lunge with both hands on, out with the left hand to a u-shaped flake, then you grab the flake to the above right with the right hand. NONE of us got there all day, then at the very last time Bill gets it, and is so focused on it he does the classic I-don't-know-what-to-do that we all know so well (especially me!) and doesn't see it and comes down.
Really need to go back and do The Corner the next time!
