Visiting Keith, then Chipotle Westwood
Quick visit out to Moreno Valley to visit Keith and his new wife, Bev. No pictures except from lunch on the return trip-- Sophia and I showed up without any advance warning and their place was a mess.
t'was definitely good to see that Keith is still alive and functioning, although it doesn't look like he's vacuumed in a while. *grins*
Stopped at Maxim Cafe in Rowland Heights on the way back-- pictured is wonton yee mein-- and saw a truck full of live pigs. Rather odd, but so is the broken elevator at Sophia's.
A few days later-- random food pictures, french toast (!) at UCLA, then NY steak (!!!) at North Campus Student Center at UCLA. It was, amazingly, actual steak-- if low quality steak-- and I didn't die... at least not yet.
Thursday, February 28th was the grand opening of Chipotle in Westwood. Free burritos however you want. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. The long*ss line actually moved pretty fast, as you can see from the army of burrito makers they had working that day. Surprisingly good considering how mobbed they were. Showed up just before 11:00am, met up with cjs from Ars, had our burritos by 11:20am. For the truly rushed, they occasional brought out boxes of pre-made carne asada burritos to those in line, and you could get out of line but get a carne asada burrito and a bottle of tea-like drink. Pretty cool, and an excellent example of crowd management. One of my coworkers showed up late so she had to get in line by herself-- by the time I ran to Diddy Reese and ran back she was most of the way through the line, so I got in line again and gave the burrito to the boss.
Much to my surprise-- some people (such as my boss) did not realize just how big Chipotle burritos were. Lugging in a bag with a 1lb burrito in it was amusing to put it mildly (!).
